The National Weather Service confirmed that the dense fog in Boston likely contributed to the car accidents occurring in the city.

Meteorologist Alan Dunham said that the areas outside of Interstate 495 have the thickest fog that the visibility in Worcester is down to just a quarter mile. He said that the visibility at Logan International Airport has improved to five miles, up from a quarter mile this morning.

According to the Boston police, a bicyclist was hit by a car at 8:02 o’clock in the morning at the corner of Longwood and Huntington avenues. The victim refused to be delivered to the hospital.

Boston police said that there was a motor vehicle accident near Science Park at 8:03 a.m. and then just before 9 o’clock in the morning, a bicyclist was hit at the corner of Centre Street and Chestnut Avenue in Jamaica Plain, Boston.

Dunham said that rain is falling over eastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island, Dunham but the rest of the afternoon will be mostly cloudy with isolated showers. Meteorologist Benjamin Sipprell reported that southerly winds are driving moisture northward over cooler ground, causing the fog.

Sipprell continued that compared to the last 14 to 15 months, November was a very cold month. The fog right now is mainly across the Cape and Martha’s Vineyard, approaching up across the southeastern coastal plain and into Boston.

Although foggy conditions are improving across the Cape and islands, drivers in Boston will have to wait for the visibility to improve in the city. Visibility in Boston in the far north could take some time.

Durham stated that temperature in Wednesday will be in the mid-50s and for the rest of the week; it will be in the 40. Areas outside of Interstate 495 have the thickest fog while visibility in Worcester is down to just a quarter mile.

The ground temperature dropped after last month’s spate of cold weather and today’s warm, moist air is mixing with the cooler surface, producing fog.

It would be wise for motorists to be careful as they drive around the foggy areas.
