Malden – In the wee hours of December 18, a single-car accident in Malden left a Woburn teen dead and another injured.

Police reported that the accident was reported near 501 Medford Street at 3:30 o’clock in the morning. Police said that the car was traveling westward when for unknown reasons; it suddenly swerved, crossed lanes, hit the curb and went airborne for more than 30 feet before hitting a sign post.

Malden Police Lt. Marc Gatcomb in his report stated that upon arriving at the scene, officers located a single car accident with the vehicle was fully engulfed in flames. Rescuers tried to save the victim inside the vehicle but they were unsuccessful.

The operator of the burning car was a 17-year-old driver who was pronounced dead at the scene. A 19-year-old passenger was successfully extricated from the wreckage by neighbors, but the victim was sustaining serious burns. She was immediately delivered to the Mass. General Hospital; however, the . Police are not releasing her name or condition.

As of Tuesday night, police are still working on the cause of the accident and the matter remains under investigation at this time,” said Gatcomb.

Malden Police Lt. Det. Marc Gatcomb confirmed that one of two victims was killed on the scene during a horrific car crash on Medford Street last night, with another transported to the hospital with serious injuries. The deceased victim was a 17 year old from Woburn while the 19 years old second victim who also came from Woburn suffered from serious injuries.

The police are still investigating the cause of the accident and other important matters.
