NEW BOSTON – A two-car crash claimed the life of one man and injured a woman. Police reported that a man is dead and a woman injured following a two-car accident on Route 13 just before 6 o’clock on Friday evening.

According to Sgt. Richard Widener of the New Boston Police Department, it appeared that the woman operating her Ford Fusion was going north on Route 13 when a jeep with a male driver veered toward the centerline. The Jeep hit her vehicle head-on. The identities of the fatality and the injured were not given out to the press as investigation is still ongoing.

The male driver succumbed at the scene while the woman was immediately transported to the Catholic Medical Center sustaining what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries. Widener reported that the woman’s injuries were minor because the airbags in her vehicle deployed.

Medical examiner reported that they have still to inform the kin of the fatality. Widener continued that it did not appear that alcohol or excessive speed were factors in the crash.

The medical examiner also said that it is not possible that the man suffered from some sort of medical event just prior to the accident.

More details will clarify the cause of the accident. Authorities are also studying if any charges will be filed to persons responsible for the crash.

Due to the accident, Route 13 was closed for close to three hours which caused lots of inconveniences to the motorists. The area was cleared by the department’s accident reconstruction team who surveyed the wreckage.
