NEW YORK — Death claimed another life in a traffic accident that happened at the Grand Central Parkway in Queens. It was an early morning mishap at around 3:30 a.m.Thursday near the Jackie Robinson Parkway interchange.
The 53-year-old man lost control of his vehicle and after his car veered towards the median, he crashed into striking another car. At least one of the operators was pronounced dead after he was transported to the Booth Memorial Hospital.
According to the police, the other driver refused any medical attention.
Another accident happened in the same early hours in West Hempstead N Y when a taxi killed a young man on Long island.
Nassau County police on New York’s Long Island are investigating an accident that killed a 22-year-old pedestrian.
The detectives were able to identify the fatality as 22-year-old Johnny Bonilla resident of West Hempstead. He was hit by a taxi as it was traveling in a Dodge Caravan shortly after 2 o’clock in the morning of Thanksgiving Day in West Hempstead.
Detectives reported that the driver was going north on Hempstead Avenue while Bonilla was walking in the road. The impact was so great that Bonilla was pronounced dead at a hospital.
Authorities stated that after breathalyzer test was conducted to the driver, it was negative, and there is no evidence of criminal conduct. The accident was not alcohol related.
The authorities are continuing their investigation to find out why the pedestrian was hit along the road. They are requesting witnesses to come forward and give them more inputs. They would also like to know if there will be charges filed for persons guilty of the accident.
The vehicle was impounded for brake and safety checks to find if accident was due to machine malfunction.
