Authorities had to close Interstate 5 for miles this morning after a car accident. The mishap involved a man who was hit by a Toyota. The man was trying to cross the north side lane of the Freeway toward downtown Los Angeles.

The fatality was between 20 and 30 years old who was pronounced dead at the scene. CHP told news alerts, that they saw the victim as he was trying to cross before he was hit by a silver Toyota.

Authorities had to close three lanes for more than an hour but were reopened after the road was cleared at 6:15 in the morning.

Lt. Cheryl MacWillie from the coroner’s office in Los Angeles identified the fatality as Jaime Herrera from Los Angeles. He was trying to cross the northbound lanes near the River of Los Angeles River when he was hit by a Camry Toyota at almost 4:30 o’clock early morning.

MacWillie said that Herrera was done with his work when he tried to run across the freeway. His other friend who was doing the same work was not injured.
