Amite, La. — For charges of DUI, a councilman-elect of Amite was arrested last week by state police. Troopers stopped the suspect, Arthur Leonard, 48-years-old at Highway 51 checkpoint last Dec. 28.

Police believed that the driver was impaired and under the influence of an illegal substance; they also discovered that Leonard was driving using a license that already expired.

Leonard will be sworn as councilman of the district next week as he won a seat on the Amite Council last fall. The arrest will surely affect his post.
