Woodland Township, New Jersey – At least two people were killed in a Saturday afternoon collision involving two motorcycles.

According to reports, the crash happened at around 2:10 in the afternoon at Buzzard Hill Road near New Jersey Route 72. A Yamaha R1 motorcycle clipped a second motorcycle while traveling at a high rate of speed. Two passengers on the Yamaha identified as driver Joseph Randazzo Jr., age 31, and his passenger named Erin Phillips, 22 years – were reportedly thrown from the bike and sustained fatal injuries.

The victims were transported to the hospital and died due to their critical injuries. No other persons were harmed while the crash remains under investigation.

The two victims reportedly worked as Pemberton Township firefighters.

Statics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has the date that in 2008, 5,290 motorcyclists were killed which was an increase of 2 % above the 5,174 motorcyclists killed in 2007. More than 96,000 motorcyclists were injured during 2008.
Randazzo and Phillips served as volunteer firefighters and were the two fatalities killed Saturday afternoon in a motorcycle accident in Woodland Township, Burlington County. State police stated that both victims who were residents of Browns Mills. The mishap followed when Randazzo lost control and both riders were thrown from their Yamaha R1 sports bike.

According to the preliminary investigation, Sgt. Brian Polite, witnesses observed that the motorcycle may was traveling at a high rate of speed; so the accident could have been speed related.

Randazzo and Phillips were following a father and son who were traveling west on separate KTM 250 sport motorcycles on Buzzard Hill Road in the Brendan T. Byrne State Forest, about a quarter mile east of Route 72. It was not clear what caused the accident. Fatal accident investigation will take time as many angles will be investigated.
