LOS BANOS — At least a woman from Hollister was dead following her being ejected from the car during a four-vehicle crash that took place on Hi-way 152 early Monday morning. California Highway Patrol reported that due to the mishap, they had to close the highway.

According to Cal Officer Matt Pinheiro, the fatality was Pricilla Zamora, age 25, died after her Honda 1995 Civic, for unknown reason, swerved into the oncoming traffic as she was near the Romero Visitors Center just west of Los Banos at about 3:54 o’clock in the morning.

Pinheiro recounted that Zamora was ejected from her vehicle after it happened, the car split in two. They were trying to find out if she was properly restrained as the vehicle was so badly wrecked that if she was wearing a seat belt, it could have been torn off,  He said that  Zamora driving east when she lost control of the car and it swerved into the opposite lane approaching oncoming cars. A Nissan 1997Sentra operated by driver identified as Manuel Jiminez, age 41, and resident of Saratoga, hit the right side of the Honda.

Pinheiro learned that the Ford F-150 truck was following Jiminez, that was operated Jason Vega, age 38 and resident of Gustine. Vega’s truck was also able to hit the Honda causing a double impact. Another vehicle, a Ford F-150, that was going west and driven by David McCarter, age 50, resident of Los Banos, was suffered debris coming from the wrecked Honda.

So it was really a four-vehicle crash that led to one dead. The four vehicles were Zamora’s Honda; Jiminez’ Nissan; Vega’s Ford and McCarter’s Ford.

Due to the four-car mishap, officers had to close the highways while they were conducting an investigation and emergency crew had to remove the wreckage. Crashed vehicles had to be towed to be inspected later as it will be a vital piece of evidence.

Pinheiro said Jiminez suffered major injuries in the  Highway crash and was airlifted to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto. He said Vega was driven by ambulance to Memorial Hospital Los Banos to be treated for minor injuries.

Pinheiro said they are trying to determine what the factor was leading to the crash. He surmised that it could be due to alcohol or drugs; or it could be due to bad weather or bad condition of the road. However, tests were given to determine the BAC of the drivers. After the investigation and result o the tests, they will be able to get full details to determine the people for charges to be filed.

However, he did not know how long the crash caused Highway 152 to be shut down, but that it took some time for the morning commute to flow freely again.
