WILLOWBROOK, Calif. — A mother and her two children were killed and injured several others after a car accident in Willowbrook on Monday.

The incident occurred at Mona Boulevard and East 119th Street at around 7 in the morning wherein a mother died at an area hospital while her two children died on scene.

According to officials, a white Cadillac was traveling southbound on Mona Boulevard at a high rate of speed when it collided with a beige SUV that was coming out of 119th Street trying to left turn onto Mona Boulevard and head north. The impact of the collision sent both cars flying away from the intersection and landing onto a sidewalk.

The Cadillac driver was arrested under the suspicion of driving under the influence. The deceased victims were identified by the coroner’s office as 30-year-old Lynze Jane Martinez, her children 3-year-old Loryana Martinez and 7-year-old Brianna Martinez.

16-year-old Mitzi Rendon heard the crash from her bedroom window and ran outside to help by pulling one of the children out the SUV’s window. Wade Pitts also stepped in to help and ulled an infant out of the SUV.

Several others were moderately injured n the incident and were subsequently brought to different local hospitals.

In the evening, a candlelight vigil will be held for the victims. As of Monday afternoon, the cause behind the incident is still under investigation.
