An early-morning crash in eastern New Orleans killed one man and critically injured another. This was the main task of the police investigation this morning.

On Wednesday night, a New Orleans man was  killed after a hit-and-run mishap on Uptown New Orleans. The fatality was identified by John Gagliano, chief investigator for the coroner’s office as. Jerry Carter, age 54, who was the victim for that day. He was crossing Claiborne Avenue near Amelia Street when we were hit by a car. The driver of the errant car did not even stop but flee from the scene.

New Orleans police are investigating this fatal Uptown hit-and-run which resulted to the death of 54-year-old man that Wednesday night.

Spokeswoman for the New Orleans Police Department, Officer Hilal Williams reported that before 8:00 o’clock that evening, Carter was crossing the street when a dark gray Avalanche Chevy hit him and immediately fled the scene.

Witnesses saw that the Chevy driving away towards the lake area on Louisiana Parkway, Williams said.

Authorities will be conducting the blood and alcohol tests in the autopsy to determine if alcohol and drugs played important role in the crash.

Police are now on the look-out for a dark Chevy that may have damage at its front-end. Anyone with information is requested to call or visit the police station. All information is kept confidential.
