Another life is claimed by a car accident on Vale Road. This time, it was the life of an Oakton resident.
An Oakton man was killed in a single-vehicle crash near his home Saturday after his car drifted off Vale Road, police said.
Fairfax County Police officials identified the fatality as 22 year-old Peter M. Gallagher resident of Wayland Street in Oakton. He was driving on Vale Road Saturday, November 17 when the accident occurred.
Police who are investigating the incident reported that at 8:56 o’clock in the evening when Gallagher was near the intersection of the Valestra Circle, for unknown reasons, his 1999 Mazda Protégé veered off the road and crashed into a concrete wall. The impact must have been so forceful that he was pronounced dead at the scene. There was no need for the ambulance to deliver him to the local hospital.
The crash is still under investigation. Gallagher was not wearing his seat belt and it is unclear if speed or alcohol were factors in the crash. They would like to know if the driver was DUI, under medication, sleepy or diverted from his driving.
Police confirmed just before 9 p.m. Saturday, that Peter Moran Gallagher Jr., 22, of Wayland Street was driving a 1999 Mazda Protégé east on Vale Road when he drifted to the right off the road and struck a guardrail just past Valestra Circle. He died in this single-vehicle crash which took place near his home Saturday after his car drifted off Vale Road. Police pronounced him dead at the scene.
