FT. LAUDERDALE – A pregnant woman and her unborn child were killed in a tragic accident in Fort Lauderdale on the afternoon of Sunday.
The victim, Alanna Demella, and her husband Michael had won a trip to South Florida thanks to their church. The couple decided to extend their trip for one more day.
Alanna Demella was inside the bathroom at a poolside cabana at Riverside Hotel at 600 E. Las Olas Boulevard when driver 34-year-old Rosa River Kim lost control of her vehicle at a curve in a road at SE 4th Street. Her vehicle crashed into a fence and to the cabana building where two pillars were knocked down.
7 months pregnant Demella and her fetus was killed in the crash. Her husband Michael, who was in an adjoining restroom, had sustained cuts and bruises.
Michael Davis, the couple’s pastor, said that both of them were very excited for the coming of their son.
Kim sustained minor injuries and was taken to Broward General Medical Center where she already spoken with the detectives. Kim said that she did not remember the crash and all she recounts is being taken out of her vehicle.’
Investigation still continues and if the case will become a criminal investigation, it is possible that they will request toxicology reports from the driver. So far, no charges are filed.
Witnesses and hotel guests tried to hep but it was too late.
Alanna Demella was a teacher assistant in the third grade who works with special education students attending an elementary school located in Arlington, Mass.
According to the pastor, the couple already had baby showers, baby gifts and baby clothing and it would be devastating for Michael Demella to go home in a house all set to embrace a new family member without his best friend.
