A three-vehicular accident that occurred in heavy fog at Holland Landing on the morning of Wednesday took the lives of two people according to York Regional Police.
The male driver and a passenger, both from Aurora, of the Ford Windstar minivan perished in the accident that happened on Highway 11, close to Bathurst Street at around 6:10 in the morning whilst one other passenger of the minivan was ejected from the vehicle according to the police.
The drivers, both sole passengers, of the other two vehicles involved, the Ford F-150 pickup truck and the Pontiac car, sustained injuries that were non-life threatening.
According to police Inspector Chris Bullen, one possible contributory factor that caused the accident was the very dense fog, which reduced the visibility at the scene to just a few meters, at the time of the crash.
Aside from the heavy fog, police have received reports about slick road conditions which also prompted them to issue a public warning to motorists to be more careful during their morning travel.
The scene of the accident, Highway 11at Bathurst Street, was closed at both directions to the public in the morning until much of the afternoon but now has since then been reopened to the public.
The police urge anyone with information regarding the accident to call investigators at 1-866-876-5423 ext. 7704 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
