Three- vehicle crash in Acadia Paris – On February 24, 2013, troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop I was investigating a three-vehicle crash which took place west of Basile on U.S.Highway 190.
Investigating Troopers recounted that on February 23, 2013, at 7:54 o’clock in the evening, Dwayne Griffin, 26-years-old resident of Kinder was driving a 2004 Chevrolet truck along the west side US Highway 190. For unknown reasons or mechanical malfunction, the truck veered towards the median and crashed into a Dodge 2008 truck, which was operated by 32-year-old Rogelio Rico resident of Elton. After colliding with Rico’s vehicle, Griffin’s Chevrolet crashed another vehicle, a Lincoln 2003 SUV driven by Isidro Mendoza, age 23 and residing in Ville Platte.
Without seatbelt, Griffin sustained life-threatening injuries was rushed to a local hospital. Shortly after her admission, Griffin died as a result of her injuries. Rico who was a passenger in the vehicle and the other driver, Mendoza were both using seat belts. They suffered only minor injuries but were also treated in the local hospital.
Investigators are trying to find out what caused the crash; they are looking at the alcohol factor so BAC test was taken. It will take a while before result from the lab will be available.
Troopers are reminding drivers and passengers to obey the State Law requiring every one inside a vehicle to wear seat belts. This restraining device may not save a life but in most cases, it reduced the risk of a crash.
