A mother and her daughter were victims of a single-vehicle crash which happened Saturday at 12 Interstate. The victims were identified as a 24-year-old woman who died and her 1-year-old daughter who was injured.

According to the police, Kristen Fauntleroy was driving her Ford 2003 pickup at the left lane of Interstate 12 along Covington which was 1 1/2 miles east of the LA 1088 exit. For unknown reasons, she lost control of the vehicle which veered into the center grass median.

Fauntleroy tried to correct by turning right but the vehicle started to turn clockwise as it careened across the eastbound lanes. It continued running and left the road to the south side of the highway. The truck hit a tree before it rested on its left side.

The Coroner’s office of St. Tammany Parish pronounced Fauntleroy dead at the scene. The little girl was airlifted by helicopter ambulance to New Orleans LSU Public Hospital. Doctors reported that the child sustained non-life threatening injuries. Both mother and child were wearing seat belts.
