TAUNTON – At least two people died while four were seriously injured after a single car crash occurred on Bay Street early Sunday morning.
It was just after midnight when the police and fire officials responded to a call involving a crash. The responding crew had to use the Jaws of Life to get all the six occupants out of the two-door Honda Accord.
The fatal mishap in Taunton caused the death of two young people as four others injuries were delivered to the hospital.
According to Taunton police, the car crashed into a tree crossing over the wrong side of the road. Police learned that the passengers of the car were from ages 18-24 and has gone to a club in Rhode Island; however they were denied admission so they headed back to Taunton.
Police believed that speed was a factor causing the car to slam against a tree along Bay Street.
Police identified the front passenger as Eden Macedo, age 18, and rear driver’s side passenger identified as Jason Neto, age 18. They were immediately transported to the Morton Hospital where they were pronounced dead.
Police learned that the driver was Nick Costa, age 24 who is a resident of Taunton. The other passengers are identified as: Ashley Rivera, age 18, Jose Rodriguez, age 21, and Chelsea Cranach, age 18. All are residents of Taunton.
The authorities discovered that none of the people in the car were wearing seat belts. The car was registered under the name of Macedo’s father.
The Taunton Police stated that they recovered a bottle of raspberry-flavored vodka on the front passenger side floor and some of that vodka had been consumed.
Investigation continues and police said that vehicular homicide charges may be forthcoming. The driver and three other victims are confined in Rhode Island Hospital.
