Police Department of Shrewsbury reported a two car motor accident with injuries that took place Saturday at 8:30 o’clock in the evening. Shrewsbury Police responded to two car motor vehicle accident with injuries at the intersection of Route 20 and Grafton St.
According to Shrewsbury Police, a 2004 Audi A-4 was traveling eastward on Route 20 when it collided with a 2007 Honda Civic. The Honda Civic was traveling North on Grafton St. and was crossing Route 20. The operator of the Audi was identified as Steven Cabral, a 25 year-old resident of Hudson, Ma. The Honda was driven by Elaine Barber age 60 from North Grafton, Ma.
The Shrewsbury Police, Shrewsbury Fire and U-Mass paramedics came in full-force at the scene. They immediately transported both injured operators to the U-Mass University Campus Hospital. However, a short time later after arrival at the hospital, operator Elaine Barber was pronounced dead as a result of her critical injuries. Operator Steven Cabral was treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Due to the accident and preliminary investigation made on the spot, the police decided to detour Route 20 traffic for approximately three hours.
Fortunately, no other persons were injured and no other vehicles were damaged.
The accident remains under investigation by Central Mass. Law Enforcement Council (CMLEC) crash reconstruction and Shrewsbury Officers Ryan Chartrand and Daniel Cronin.
They are trying to determine what caused the vehicles to collide. They have no information yet if the person’s involved in the crash were wearing seat belt. They have requested any witness to the incident to add information gathered on the scene.
