Every crash happening on our nation’s highways, either from a motorbike or a train, constitutes a tragedy — particularly those that cause serious injuries or fatalities. A truck is one of the most common denizens plying the highway so special investigations are needed to study causes of crash. One study made by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) reported that leading causes attributing to fatal heavy truck crashes are fatigue, alcohol, drugs, and medical factors. The American Trucking Association (ATA) believes that reduction and proper management of fatigue is an important safety issue, but it should not be the only factor to focus on as there is a multitude of causes. There are other issues to be dealt with in insuring safety measures for truck drivers.
