A traffic crash on Monclova Road claimed the life of one person. The fatal traffic crash happened morning at Monclova Road in Swanton Township early this morning, troopers said.
Troopers said that the identity of the victim depends upon DNA tests from the Lucas County Coroner.
According to authorities, the crash was reported to the Toledo post of the Highway Patrol at 2:50 early morning. Based on the preliminary investigation, troopers discovered that the victim was driving eastbound on Monclova, east of Wilkins Road, when for unknown reasons, it veered towards the right side of the road, hit a tree, stuck a utility pole, and then caught fire.
Troopers confirmed that nobody else was in the vehicle at the time of the crash. The impact mush have been so much that the victim was pronounced dead at the scene by an official from the Lucas County Coroner’s Office.
The crash remains under investigation.
Ohio Highway Patrol recalled that less than a month ago, on September 9, a Monclova man was killed that Sunday and his passenger injured. The man was operating his eastbound pickup truck when it went off the road on State Route 65 west of Henry County Road 1 and hit a tree.
The driver was identified as Dennis Ray, Sr., 57 years old. He, was pronounced dead at the scene and his passenger, Connie Ray, 54, suffered minor injuries. She was immediately taken to the University of Toledo Medical Center, the former Medical College of Ohio.
The accident in Damascus Township happened at 5:30 in the afternoon.. Troopers reported that both occupants were wearing seatbelts.
