LANCASTER — A one-car accident happened on Route 2 which sent four teens from to local hospitals last Friday night. The mishap caused the vehicle to flip the median while the driver was hurled out of the car. This was the report of Trooper Kenneth Gaetz of the Massachusetts State Police Trooper.
According to Gaetz, the Hyundai 2001 Elantra operated by Ryan Cuddahy, 18 years old and resident of Leominster, was the vehicle involved in the crash which happened that Friday night at the westbound Lancaster Route 2.
Investigation is ongoing on why the 18 years old, Ryan Cuddahy from Leominster lost control of his 2002 Hyundai- Elantra which he was driving while traveling westbound on Route 2 at 11:30 p.m. that Friday evening. Preliminary investigation revealed that the vehicle veered towards the left, hit the middle area of the grass portion and was ejected over a 6-foot high fence, then was airlifted and finally fell down on its tires at the other side of the highway, Gaetz related.
None of the passengers in the car were wearing seat belts so the driver was easily hurled out of the vehicle. When the police arrived on the scene, they saw that the three male passengers were already standing out of the car.
Cuddahy and one passenger Nicholas Bergeron, 18 years old , resident of Leominster, were brought to Worcester – UMass Medical Center. As of Saturday afternoon, Cuddahy was reported to be in stable condition in the ICU suffering from non-life threatening injuries. Bergeron had only minor injuries and was sent home the next day, said Gaetz.
Two other teen male passengers, both residents of Leominster, were delivered to HealthAlliance Hospital where they were treated for minor injuries and released soon after, Gaetz said.
Patrol Officer Gaetz said that the driver was not driving DUI but Cuddahy will still be charged for operating negligently a motor vehicle and four car occupants will be charged for violating the seat belt law.
