HUNT COUNTY, Texas – At least three people died Thursday night in a two- vehicle collision on a highway near the small Hunt County town of Celeste.
Texas Department of Public Safety and troopers responded to the call regarding a head-on collision at about 7:40 in the evening. Investigators in the scene later learned that 44-year-old Brett Vick, resident of Greenville, was traveling south of U.S. Highway 69 when he veered across the northbound lanes and collided with a vehicle head-on
According to The Texas Department of Public Safety stated that 65-year-old Ouida Richards and her mother, 84-year-old Melba Compton, were driving northbound on Highway 69 in their red Ford Escape.
From the opposite direction came 44-year-old Brett Vick resident of Greenville who was operating a Chevy Impala. Just around County Road 1040, the two vehicles crashed at about 7:40 in the evening which led to a violent fiery accident.
Cpl. J.E. Simpson reported that evidence pointed that the southbound driver coming from Denison to Greenville crossed into the northbound lane and in the process hit the red SUV.
The impact killed both drivers immediately although several people, including an off-duty paramedic who lived in the area, tried their best to save the elderly woman in the SUV. However, she later died at a local hospital.
The two victims came from the town of Celeste.
State troopers were able to identify the Greenville man who caused Thursday night’s deadly crash in Hunt County as 44-year-old Brett Vick.
Vick was traveling southbound along the U.S. Highway 69 near Celeste at about 8in the evening when his 2012 Chevy Impala swerved towards the center and hit the northbound Ford Escape head-on. The impact killed both SUV’s operator, 65-year-old Ouida Richards, and her 84-year-old mother, Melba Compton, both of Celeste.
After the collision, there three people dead on Thursday night in Hunt County.
The victims died at the scene, said DPS spokesman Trooper Mark Tackett.
