ORLANDO, Fla. — A car travelling on a wrong direction at I-4 collided head-on with another vehicle on Friday at about 2:30 in the morning. The car travelling at the wrong direction encountered other vehicles which had successfully avoided the car until it finally crashed with an incoming car near the exit of Kaley Avenue.
The passenger of the car which was travelling on the right direction had to be removed from the vehicle and was brought to Orlando Regional Medical Center for medical treatment. It was reported that the person was in a critical condition.
All in all, three people were injured in the accident and were brought to the hospital. The driver of the car, 21 year old Christian Rosado from Kissimmee, that was driving on the wrong direction had only sustained minor injuries whilst the driver of the other involved car was admitted to the hospital for sustaining serious injuries.
Traffic was jammed for a couple of miles before the roads were reopened, from Kaley Avenue back to John Young Parkway. The wreckage at the scene could not be immediately cleared and cleaned up by the police because they were waiting for crime scene technicians to finish their part of the investigation.
Police told WFTV that they received numerous phone calls from drivers reporting a vehicle that was travelling in the wrong direction at SR-408 before the accident.
It was not yet known to the investigators why the car was heading the wrong direction on I-4. Their investigation is still ensuing.
The suspect, Christian Rosado, was noted for driving on the wrong side of a divided highway. The investigators are still on the process of determining whether alcohol had been a contributory factor in the accident.
After the police had completed the investigation, the eastbound lanes of I-4 was reopened at about 6:15 in the morning after being shut down for almost 4 hours.
