LOUISVILLE, KY – At least one person is dead after a crash on Interstate 264 westbound near the 6 mile marker. Another road mishap has claimed the life of one person.
MetroSafe dispatchers reported that a car crashed into a pole between Garrs Lane and Savage Drive. The impact was so great that there was no need to bring the driver to the hospital as he died on the scene.
Authorities had to close the interstate at Dixie Highway for about three due of the crash. Motorists are cautioned to detour off the roadway at Dixie Highway. The duration of this closure remains unknown at this time.
Shively police are at the scene. Traffic on the westbound I-264 in Shively was flowing again after a deadly accident Friday afternoon closed the road.
MetroSafe reported another single car accident happened around 2:38 at the westbound lanes of I-264 just west of Dixie Highway. It appeared that the car involved veered towards the right side of the roadway and crashed against a support column for sound barrier walls being constructed in the area.
Authority of Jefferson County diverted Westbound I-264 traffic off the Watterson at Dixie Highway while police was investigating the mishap. However, the road was reopened around 7 Friday evening.
Coroner identified the victim as 30-year-old William Cundiff who died in an accident on I-264 West at the 6.6 mile marker in Shively.
Police believed that Cundiff must have lost control of his car and crashed into a pole on the side of the road.
Police are still trying to find out what made him swerved to the right and hit the pole.
