ATLANTA – Lives were uselessly wasted when a couple from Georgia and their young son were killed following a horrific crash in New Jersey on Thursday. The very next day, friends paid their at the family’s Lithonia restaurant.

The fatalities were identified as Ainsworth & Jaqueline Mallett and their son Drew. Drew Mallett, 12, and his parents were killed in a crash in New Jersey. His sister Nikki Mallett, 18, is the only surviving family member. The family was on their way back from a holiday visit with family when they crashed on the New Jersey Turnpike.

Mourners who paid their respects at the Mallett family’s Jamaican restaurant could hardly believe that the family was gone and this memorial was for their honor. Seven years ago, the Stone Mountain family started to operate the Golden Krust on Rockbridge Road.

Aubry Charles, a friend, stated that the family was well-loved in the community, and called they were known as the Malletts, a “hard-working and dedicated family. They worked together to run a successful restaurant business with every member doing their job. Mr. Mallett was the cook; Nikki took down the orders, served food and ran the register; and Mrs. Mallett was an all-round help.

Nikki was newly graduated from Stephenson High School, and just completed her first semester in college before the holidays. Mrs. Mallett worked administrator and counselor at Stephenson Middle School where her son Drew was a student.

Many in the community stated that it seemed so unreal that the family is no longer with them. For Charles and all the neighbors, the family was a great loss to the community.

Friends and family say Nikki Mallett was released from the hospital on Friday afternoon.
