Yuma, Ariz. – A young man is now facing charges for a hit & run accident in which he fatally injured a Yuma girl, age 14 who was struck by his car while skateboarding.
Yuma police identified the hit-and-run driver as Edgar Borquez, age 23 who has been charged murder in the 2nd degree and leaving the scene of a fatal accident.
Police added that they have also arrested Borquez’s parents; Guadalupe Borquez, age 57 and Olivia Borquez, age 54 for obstructing prosecution charges alleging by concealing evidence. However, it was not stated what the evidence was, but it was apparently germane to the case
Yuma police detectives reported that on Aug. 17, the driver run over a young girl who was riding her skateboard in a crosswalk The young victim, identified as Mary Rodriguez expired Sunday evening at a hospital in Phoenix due to critical injuries sustained in the Saturday morning accident.
Up to this time, investigators are still working the case. They said that In cases such as these, they need to collect lots of evidences. First, they have to go over the vehicle thoroughly, as well as inspect the accident scene. There will be scores of witnesses to be interviewed. Authorities will have to follow all leads that are brought forth. Even the family of the victim’s family will be interviewed to see if there were any extenuating circumstances as well.
After the crash, the girl was airlifted to the Children’s Hospital of Phoenix where her injuries appeared to be life-threatening. She remained in critical condition for two days and died on the third night.
When the police arrived at the scene of the crash, the errant car had left. Witnesses described the vehicle as light in color, possibly light brown. It was probably a four-door Nissan Altima between 2002 and 2006 vintage. A good clue would be that the car sustained damages to the left front corner.

Police received many tips from concerned residents in the community through that ultimately led to Borquez’ arrest. Finally, the hit-and-run driver was inside the net of the Yuma police.
The suspect, identified as Edgar Borquez, age 23, was cornered at his home last night. Borquez’ parents, Guadalupe and Olivia Borquez were interviewed by the police. The couple accepted the suspicion that they hid evidences connecting their son to the crime.
Borquez will be filed charges for a murder to the 2nd degree and leaving the scene of a deadly crash. His parents will also be in court today.
Police would like to thank many concerned residents for tips that eventually led to the arrest of the culprit.
