A collision in Magnolia took place between a motorcycle and car. The motorcycle driver was send to Cooper Hospital. The White Horse Pike had to be closed from Davis to Evesham Road. It happened Wednesday at White Horse Pike at Warwick Road in Magnolia. Police say a motorcycle and a car were involved in a crash. One man is in the hospital after a car and motorcycle accident on the White Horse Pike.
Magnolia Police Chief John Evans reported that initial investigation revealed that both vehicles were traveling westbound on Route 30, the White Horse Pike when they crashed. One male went to Cooper Trauma Center in serious condition. Officials continued to investigate the cause of the accident.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) estimated that per mile traveled, the number of deaths on motorcycles in 2010 was about 30 times the number in cars. Motorcycles often have excessive speed performance capabilities, less stable than cars in emergency braking and less visible to other motorists. They are more prone to crash injuries because motorcycles are unenclosed, leaving riders vulnerable to contact with hard road surfaces. This is why wearing a helmet, as well as other protective clothing, is so important. Helmets decrease the severity of head injuries, the likelihood of death and the overall cost of medical care. They are designed to cushion and protect riders’ heads from the impact forces of a crash. NHTSA estimates that motorcycle helmets reduce the likelihood of a crash fatality by 37 percent.
