MILLEDGEVILLE — It was such a tragic ending which happened second week of the New Year. Milledgeville Police Department confirmed that a Monday traffic collision took place. It ended tragically with the death of a 19-year-old driver from Sparta died as a recult of head trauma last Tuesday.
Tekeyah Mapp succumbed to head trauma Tuesday.
The accident took place on Monday around 2 o’clock in the afternoon at the intersection of North Jefferson and Briarcliff streets just outside of the Flash Food Store.
There were two vehicles involved.
Police Major John Davis recounted that the driver of one vehicle, identified as Tekeyah Mapp was traveling northbound along North Jefferson Street when for unknown reasons, she swerved to avoid hitting another vehicle that was turning right into the convenience store.
Davis recounted that as Mapp swung out, she overcorrected and the vehicle spun completely around into the southbound lane of traffic.
A truck going south was hit by Mapp’s car with the impact occurring on the driver side door.
Davis stated that the crash against her door was the main cause of severe injuries. She was unconscious at the scene.
For Davis, seeing someone die in an accident is awful but it becomes more tragic when the victim is a young person.
