Authorities reported that they have reopened the Tunnel at Belle Chase after a five-car crash last Friday.

Eric Becnel Commander of the Plaquemines Parish Sheriff’s Office announcement the opening of the tunnel located at the Louisiana 23 Monday afternoon after the area was cleared/

Due to the wreck, the highway has to be closed while police rerouted traffic towards Woodland Highway to Gen. DeGaulle Drive in Algiers. Although the two-way traffic is opened, the bridge had to be closed for repair.

Repair of the bridge started Saturday but it is scheduled to be completed on Sunday together with the opening of the span.

Traffic along 1-10 West and East are greatly affected by the multi-car fatal accident.
