MAPLE SHADE, N.J. (CBS) – A fatal road accident in Burlington County claimed the life of a man. Police are currently investigating a fatal accident that took place early Sunday morning in Burlington County, New Jersey.

According to police, there was one fatality after a pedestrian was hit by two vehicles in the northbound lanes of Route 73 around 12:45 o’clock in the morning.

Police have identified the victim as Thomas Lewis, 36 years-old and a resident of Seaside Heights, New Jersey. He was temporarily staying in a motel in Maple Shade, stated the officials.

Authorities reported that both drivers are cooperating as the police are conducting their investigation. Pending result, the identities of the two drivers were not given to the media and no charges have been filed, as yet.

Maple Shade authorities in Burlington County confirmed that a fatal accident took place in the area. The mishap took place along Route 73 near Route 38 around 12:45 o’clock on Sunday morning.

According to the Police stated that 36-year-old Thomas Lewis was struck by two vehicles. His injuries were critical which was the cause why he died later in the hospital.
The drivers of both vehicles were questioned and they were very cooperative. Both drivers have been questioned and are cooperating with police.

Still no word what sparked the crash. The authorities would like to know if the accident was alcohol –related or the machines of the vehicles malfunctioned.

The accident remains under investigation by the Maple Shade Police Department and the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office.
