On Sunday of July 8, a 48-year-old Philadelphia police officer was killed after he was part of  a fatal automobile accident that occurred while he was traveling north on I-95. The victim, who was on his patrol motorcycle, was hit by a car driving south

State police was able to identify the man driving the car as a resident of Levittown. News report stated that the man was charged with homicide by vehicle and a DUI.

According to CBS Philly, the Deputy Commissioner said that it was an ominous day and lamented that the victim had no chance to avoid the car.

The police officer served a part-time member of the force for 23 years. He was pronounced dead at the scene Lanes between Bridge Street and Allegheny Avenue for hours were blocked off by highway patrolmen.

The 47 year old driver of the gray Audi A6 was transported to Aria Health Torresdale he received treatment for injuries he sustained before law enforcement officials took him into custody.

One hour before the accident, another police officer lost his life in a car crash. The victim was the unlucky second.

The victim had been the recipient of five awards of merits for superior police work and four letters from the commissioner praising his service to the city. It was a great lose when he was hit by the Audi.

A veteran of the Department for 23 years was married to his high school sweetheart and had three children ranging in age from 4 to 24 years old.
