17 year-old Utah Izvuk, 17 is dead while the teenaged male driving the car is injured after a car accident at Bustleton, Philadelphia.
According to police the accident happened around 4 am near the intersection of Grant Avenue and Krewstown Road. Police officers say that a teenage boy was driving an SUV when he lost control of the car, struck a tree and then flipped over.
The passenger Izvuk, a senior at Northeast High School in Philadelphia, got ejected from her seat and was pronounced dead on the scene. The driver is listed in critical condition at the Aria Health Torresdale where he was taken shortly after the accident.
Fellow students at Northeast High will be wearing her favorite colors pink and purple in Izvuk’s memory. Her family said that she was going to college after she graduated.
The victim’s sister Daisy said: “I love her and it’s really hard to lose her like that.”
Police say that the cause of the crash has not yet been determined though they suspect that the driver may have been speeding. According to residents who live near the area, many drivers speed down Krewstown trying to beat the red light instead of slowing down.
“I think she’d be happy to see her family and friends supporting her and remembering her,” said Daisy.
One resident has commented that in less than a month living in the area there have been three or four cars involved in accidents. Another resident says that that the city needs to do something about putting up more lights before the one in Krewstown Road.
“There has to be something done with these lights,” said one resident. “They need to put something in here.”
According to police new lights will go up at the intersection once construction of a nearby store near Wawa is finished.
