LOWER MERION TWP., Pa. – A fatal accident which happened early Saturday morning in Lower Merion Township is being investigated by the Police.

According to police, the mishap took place around 2:05 in the morning when. a Nissan with two males inside crashed against a utility pole while it was traveling westbound on Rock Hill Road.
Police identified the operator as 27 years-old Jason K. Dubin, 27, resident of Merion Station, who died at the scene of the accident. The passenger was identified by the Police as Nicholas Tropea, age 22, and resident of Narberth, was transported to the University of Pennsylvania hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Authorities reported that cause of the accident could be attributed to excessive speeding.

Another fatal accident which happened in Derwood on Oct. 7 is still under investigation by the Montgomery County police.

According to the preliminary investigation, the driver of a silver 2000 Mazda 626 was northbound on Airpark Road and was attempting to negotiate a curve. For reasons that remain under investigation, police said the Mazda crossed into the southbound lanes striking a white, 2010, Lexus RX350 and a dark, gray, 2012 Acura TL.

Police confirmed that the 53-year-old male front seat passenger of the Mazda died on the scene of the collision. The 48-year-old male driver of the Mazda and the 53-year-old male driver of the Acura were transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital with critical injuries. Only the 59-year-old female driver of the Lexus was not injured.
The circumstances surrounding this collision remain under investigation. Investigators are asking anyone who witnessed this fatal collision and have not spoken to detectives to contact the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 240-773- 6620. Callers may remain anonymous.
