PINE LAWN, MO – An impaired driver endangered the life of a pregnant woman and the baby she was carrying after he completely ran them over with his Mitsubishi SUV. The driver also smashed into an empty day care center.

At about 4:30 in the afternoon of Wednesday, the 22-year-old pregnant woman was waiting for a bus on the corner of Jennings Station and Vetter when she was completely run over by a Mitsubishi driven by a driver who witnesses say was swerving on and off. After running down the victim over, the vehicle smashed through the walls of an empty day care center on the opposite side of the street.

When the police arrived, they extricated the driver. The police say that the driver appeared to have suffered some kind of impairment and they could not determine whether it was because of alcohol, drugs or a health condition.

Sgt. Steven Blakeney of the Pine Lawn Police added that there was a language barrier between them and the suspect.

A 48-hour hold was filed by the Immigration Customs Enforcement on Wednesday night as they claim that the man was not in the country legally.

The pregnant woman was said to be in a stable condition on Wednesday night at Barnes Jewish Hospital. The details regarding the condition of her baby and her gestational month were not released.
