A crossing guard of Northshore High School was injured last Thursday morning while he was doing his work in front of the school. While he was directing traffic, a woman operator who was dropping off her kid to school, struck him with her Chevrolet 1210 Equinox. This was the report of Sgt. Sean Beaver of the Sheriff’s Office at St.Tammany Parish. His condition is still under evaluation by the medical staff of Slidell Memorial Hospital but they did not consider his injuries as life-threatening.
Sheriff’s Office stated that Jacqueline Smith, driver of the Equinox, was turning onto Panther Drive coming from U.S. 190 East when the front of her SUV hit the crossing guard. The impact propelled the guard over the hood of the car.
Smith told the investigators the glare of the sun temporarily blinded her as she was turning in Panther Drive. The glare was the contributing factor leading to the mishap. She was not issued a citation by the police.
