Two men were arrested after a road rage chase and crash happened in Wynnefield. An elderly couple was hospitalized as a result of the crash.
The two perpetrators Andrae Salmon 29 of Medary Street, Philadelphia and Isiah Mack 25 of 2600 Block of North 23rd Street of Philadelphia will be facing charges including aggravated assault and leaving the scene of an accident.
According to police the incident started shortly after 2 pm at the city’s Wynnefield Section when one car struck another from behind and left the scene. Apparently one man who was driving a Buick on
Park Avenue hit a Nissan Maxima on City Avenue near 54th street and kept going. A high speed chase followed as the owner of the Nissan Maxima took after the Buick in pursuit. Both vehicles ended up on Bryn Mawr Avenue a few blocks away.
Investigators say that the Buick slammed into the elderly couple’s Honda in front of James Warren’s Wynnefield Avenue home on Bryn Mawr Avenue near Nevada Street. A 90 year old man and his 82 year old wife were injured as a result of the accident. A total of 4 cars were affected by the chase.
“It’s a terrible thing. These people got hurt innocently,” Warren said.
Witnesses tell cops that the suspects then jumped out of their cars and an argument ensued. One man, the driver of the Nissan Maxima then pulled out a knife and chased the other man on foot to a Produce Junction Store.
Produce Junction employee Alegre Boone said “I actually saw the knife. When he walked into the store he had it behind him and then when he got close enough to the guy, then he pulled it from behind his back and tried to stab him.”
Another witness Kitty Burns-Eisenburg said she heart the guy in front screaming to “call the cops there’s a guy behind me with a knife.” The witness then dropped her flowers and ran out of Produce Junction.
Police in the area later arrived and took custody of the suspects while the injured couple waited for help to arrive. They were later taken to Hahnemann Hospital where they are both in stable condition.
Officers reached the scene and took both men into custody while the critically injured elderly couple waited for help.
