Four people from Armona were involved in an accident when the driver lost control of the vehicle and fell into an embankment. California Highway Patrol stated that at around 3:00 o’clock that afternoon, the quartet were going west along the freeway when the driver lost control of the vehicle that veered toward the median just passed the 6th Avenue.
The driver identified as Antonia Lopez let her car a Hyundai Electra leave the roadway as she tried to crank the wheel forcefully to the right. The car propelled across both traffic lanes and fell to a steep embankment at the north side. Then the vehicle overturned before resting at the bottom.
The impact caused two people to die at the scene. The fatalities were an elderly man of 91 and a woman of 49 who are both from Armona. Their names were not released to the public as their nearest kin have not been informed of their death.
The operator Lopez, 27, complained of pain but sustained only minor injuries. She was delivered to the Adventist Medical Center.
The fourth victim was identified as 22-year-old Lucia Lopez, who sustained several lacerations in her face and transported to Fresno’s Community Regional Medical Center for emergency treatment. The police did not give out any detail of her condition as late Saturday.
According to the investigators, the Hyundai was traveling over 70 MPH at the time of the crash so the police suspected that speed was one of the factors. More details will be out as soon as investigation is complete.
