An accident claimed another victim which occurred on Rt. 39 near Baltzley Valley Road in Goshen Township Thursday morning.

A woman from New Philadelphia, identified as Victoria L. Trammell was on her way to Ember Complete Care in Uhrichsville where she worked as an aide. Trammell was driving westbound when she veered left of center and her car, a 2003 Ford Taurus; collided heads-on with an oncoming six-axle, semi dump truck just one mile west of the Baltzley Valley Road intersection. She was fatally injured in this two–vehicle crash on state Route 39 in Goshen Township.

Sgt. Gary Wolfe of the Ohio Highway Patrol post in New Philadelphia reported that when the crash occurred at 8:20 a.m., Trammell, 64, who resided in 6592 Beaver Dam Road SE, New Philadelphia, was about three miles from her home.

The Berner Trucking of Dover is the owner of the 2006 Sterling Conventional dump truck which collided with Trammel. It was loaded with gravel. The driver, Timothy D. Lumbert, 44, of 525 Tuscarawas Ave. NW, New Philadelphia, was not hurt.

The impact pushed the car back into the westbound lane, where both vehicles came to rest on the berm, Wolfe said.

Trammell, who was not wearing a seat belt, had to be extricated from the wreckage by New Philadelphia firefighters.

Thursday’s crash was Tuscarawas County’s seventh traffic fatality of the year. Troopers are continuing the investigation.

Route 39 was closed to traffic in both directions for most of the day Thursday as crews worked to clear the wreckage and clean up a large quantity of diesel fuel that spilled onto the road and into ditches.
