COLUMBIA, SC – A man drove through some apartments on Longcreek Drive, according to Deputy Fire Chief Aubrey Jenkins with the Columbia Fire Department.
The vehicle went through an apartment building and ended up landing on a bed with a man sleeping in it.
The man sleeping in the bed sustained on a scratch on his leg whilst the driver of the car sustained minor injuries.
On Tuesday morning, fire crews spent time in making sure that the building was safe from collapse.
The accident was an early morning wake-up call for the man who woke up to find a 2005 Toyota beside him.
The Fire officials say that it was incredible that the vehicle found itself that far in the apartment. The vehicle had apparently came through the road, through the tree line, almost sideways, then through the bushes, flipped upside down and crashed the apartment next door where the vehicle took out the deck and an A/C unit before finally landing in the apartment where a sleeping man was inside.
The driver, Marcus Borom, faces charges of driving under the influence, driving with a suspended license and pending charges for vehicle theft and larceny of a cell phone.
20-year-old Marcus Antwan Borom had lost control of the vehicle, hit several trees before driving through the apartment at about 4:50 in the morning, according to Lance Corporal Josef Robinson with the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
The sleeping man, Ronnie Hopkins, was in the bed when the incident occurred and is fine having only suffered a cut on the leg.
Borom, on the other hand, was taken to the hospital before being transported to Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
