LYNWOOD, Calif. — A speeding minivan that crashed into a car had the police looking for the minivan’s driver. The force of the collision split the car in half.
One person was killed in the tragic accident on Sunday. Investigation is underway.
The deceased victim, 37-year-old Jose Juan Valenzuela Ramos, was driving a Honda Accord that had split in half during the collision.
At around 1 in the morning of Sunday, the incident occurred at the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Atlantic Avenue.
According to the authorities, the minivan was heading south on Atlantic Avenue when it hit the Honda at the intersection. The force of the collision split the Honda in half where Ramos died from the injuries he sustained at the scene.
A section of the Honda had ended on a sidewalk near a gas station.
Witness Itziar Contreras describes what he saw. She said, “We were going up Atlantic and we saw this van going 70 to 75 mph. I told my husband little does he know there’s a cop in front of him and they’re going to catch him. Through my rear view mirror I see him impact the car and the car just cuts in two pieces.”
The driver of the minivan fled the scene and a passenger of the minivan was detained by the police for subsequent questioning. Police confirms that they are following leads.
