CUMMING – A road accident claimed the life of another person last Friday. According to the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office, an accident took place in Forsyth County and the updated report stated that one of the drivers critically injured in a head-on traffic accident has died.
Police identified the fatality as Howard B. Nichelson, age 61, resident of Canton. Nichelson succumbed from critical injuries sustained Tuesday morning at North Fulton Hospital. Investigator Ron Tomblin of the county’s Traffic Specialist Unit said Nichelson reported that the fatality had been on life support since the wreck.
The authorities reported that the wreck occurred around 2:00 o’clock in the afternoon of Friday on Georgia Highway 20 (Canton Highway) along the vicinity of Cherokee County line.
Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Karleen Chalker identified the other victim as 75 year old Linda D. Pollard who is a resident of Big Canoe. Pollard was taken by an ambulance helicopter to Atlanta Medical Center.
According to Chalker, the woman driver crossed over her vehicle to the center turn lane into the eastbound lane of Canton Highway. In doing so, she struck the vehicle that was being driven by Mr. Nichelson.
Authorities stated last Tuesday afternoon said Pollard still remained in serious condition.
Police said that the drivers of the two vehicles were strapped into their seat belts and that the drivers were able to deploy their airbags.
The two drivers, the only people involved in the accident, were wearing seatbelts. Investigators said airbags deployed in both vehicles.
The police are still continuing their investigation to discover the cause of the wreck and to find if any charges will be filed to whoever is responsible for the accident..
