Children are the most vulnerable to road accidents as statistics of children and car accidents are disturbing. Based on the data gathered by the Nation’s Center for Statistics and Analysis (NCSA), more than quarter of a million children are victims of road accidents annually. On a daily basis, there will be around 700 young ones injured on the road. Translated in Northeast Philadelphia that would mean 10 children per state dying daily in a car accident.

March 09, 2013 –

A sorrowful mother of a young son who was victim to a car crash is appealing to the public to help catch the driver who cut short her son’s life.

Kathleen Greer recalled that her son was a wonderful artist who was adept in both free hand and charcoal drawing. Greer recalls beautiful memories of her son, Richard Jeffords who was a very lovable person and never spoke ill of anyone.

Sunday of August 26, Jeffords visited a friend on foot and as he was walking home, he was struck by a car.

Walking along Roosevelt Boulevard along the vicinity of Hartel Avenue in NE Philadelphia, the boy was struck by a car which fled the scene right after the mishap.

A motorist witnessed the accident and called the police. The violent crash immediately killed Jeffords.

The vehicle in question was identified as a 300 Chrysler coming out in the year 2004 to 2010 and it was last seen going north. Authorities were able to pick up a driver’s side view mirror from the site and they surmised that the vehicle sustained damages on the side window of the driver, the hood and windshield.

Greer is addressing anyone who has information about the accident to contact the family or the police as everything will be kept in confidence. A reward of $3,500 is offered for any information that can lead to the arrest and conviction of the hit-and-run driver.
